Women in the White House

In Cheryl Crow’s song “women in the White House” she does not give you the correct image of the right type of women that should be serving our country. What she gives us is an appropriate song that gets a very good point across, but with the wrong person displayed in the white house. The cover of the CD is portrayed as a sexy woman in high heels with long legs which is to get the attention of the male species. This may work because most males think that is attractive so they will buy the CD for their “wives” so they can see that picture.

Cheryl gives us a good tone, melody, and good choice of lyrics which makes the song catchy, so it is stuck in the heads of the listener all day. On a harder more serious note most women believe that it is time for a woman to be elected into office. I feel that if the women can be man enough to handle the war and any other type of major crisis like our past future leaders have she should be able to run for president but if she gets all girly-girly on us and can’t handle it she should be nowhere near the election. So with all of this said I believe a woman being elected into office would not be a bad thing if she can handle all the pressures of leadership. As far as the song goes, Cheryl did a good job getting her point across

For the purpose of selling her song, “Woman in the White House” seems like it would sell. It covers a modern issue and has an appropriate tune to go along with it. That coupled with the way she sings it can be hard to determine what exactly she is saying at certain points in her song. Most women believe that it is time for a woman to be elected president and have strong feelings on the matter. By writing a song based on that feeling you would expect that song to sell. I have no idea if this song is actually selling well, but based on my limited knowledge of that market I would expect this song to sell rather well. Although the song seems to stem from good intentions, it does not actually help the cause of getting a woman elected president. Some may even argue that it hinders the cause.
This song hinders the cause of getting a woman elected president because it furthers the stereotype of women. It also does not offer any real reason why a woman would make a better president than a man. It makes multiple claims as to why a woman should be elected, but does not actually show that. The facts she provides seem to indicate that women shouldn’t be elected. The image on the CD cover detracts from her message, although it does help sell it. Then there is the problem that the grammar used in the song does make it sound good, but it doesn’t make much sense when written out. The phrase “well we like to spend money, but not money we ain’t got” doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. From my own personal experiences women tend to spend money they obtained via their significant other. So that saying alone tends to not be true. Most of the phrases in this song are also similar in that they either don’t hold much truth to them, or are not a reason to elect an official.

Woman in the White House

For this week’s blog we had to listen to a song called “Woman in the White House,” by Sheryl Crow. It wasn’t really a song that I ever would’ve listened to on my own, but I do have to say that I had a certain ring to it that stuck in my head. She’s stating in the song that it’s time to get a woman into the white house. The woman that she betrays in the song though really shows a stereotypical version of a girl that should be representing our country. The picture by far is one of the worst images for this idea. All you see are a girl’s legs clear up to her thigh. She’s wear some huge high heels that any normal girl would break her ankle in. It’s not a very professional picture by any means. It’s stats something dirty and it’s very demeaning to the girls that do take pride in themselves and really respect themselves.
I believe that the cover will sell her song very well. Whether or not we want to admit it, sex sells. It’s something that catches your eye and pulls everyone in. So for this reason the cover was a very good chose. If she really wants to get a woman to be president I don’t believe she did a very good job of this at all. The male audience is just going to joke about the song, because all that she really manages to do is down grade women. One way that she does this is calling us “girls” in the song. Basically looking down on us and not accepting the fact that it could really one day happen. The lyrics to her song are really not persuading anyone to elect a woman one day. I feel that this song is more as a joke and she is pointing and laughing at us all saying that it would really be absurd if any woman was to ever get in.

Juxtaposition post

In this song I think Sheryl Crow isn't making a far juxtaposition. She is being pretty sexest saying that a female would make everything better. Instead of using logically ideas and explanations she says that there would be less fighting and things like that. Well, any women can fight just as much as a man, if not more. I think the cover of her CD pretty much is a dead give away that this song is going to be this way though. I don't think there is anything wrong with her thought that maybe a women could turn things around, but this really isn't her thought. I think her thought is more that males can't solve the current problems of America. If the song were a more logical and realistic song, I think this would have been a fair juxtaposition. I guess you could also go about thinking that maybe she just is trying to say women should have some form of power.

I think that the juxtaposition used to cell this CD would probably be a hit with girls. I feel as if she aimed this right at them. Telling women things like this, saying how they could be better really empowers them. Although not all women, some see past the lack of realisticness. I do think that this is the main reason it would be an effective way to cell the CD though. Now when you talk about the effectiveness of the juxtaposition used to compare to a female in politics I think she missed the mark. Her thoughts aren't realistic and she is very one sided on the veiw. Although I think that this could be easily altered to be effective, it isn't in this case. I think this songs shows this very well because it could be effective to other people or situations, although I may not think it is. I think that this shows both effective and ineffective ways, so this song is a good example.

Woman In The White House

Sheryl Crow picked a very strange way to go about saying she wants a female in the White House. Her way of trying to provide reasons of why this is a good idea is all wrong to me. To start off with the picture for the song, and how degrading it is. It is a picture of a ladies legs in high heels with the White House in between. Just assuming she probably is wearing something very sexy instead of going with something more mature for the White House. I think just this picture without the song is very demeaning to women, and does not represent a good picture for women being in the White House. When I think of wanting a woman in the white house I think of a very classy, mature, educated woman, defiantly not what is represented in the picture shown. She could have done way more better things with a different picture instead of this one.

Now aside from the picture you see, lets talk about her song. The song at first was kind of catchy until you were a minute into it and it just sounded like she was whining. I understand and completely agree that a lot of us would love to see a woman in the White House. I am beyond ready for this to happen, but the way Sheryl talks about it doesn't make it sound all too great. She could have done a way better job at expressing how she felt about this instead of with these lyrics. When I listen to the song it sounds like shes whining the whole time, and I can barely take her seriously. She talks about all of these common things that anyone is able to do and tries to portray that woman are the only ones that are good at them. I don't understand how she expects people to take this song seriously, and do something about it.

Juxtaposition

The song “Woman in the White House” by Sheryl Crow sends a very powerful message across to listeners. She’s discussing how as women it’s time we stand up and try to make a difference and get a shot at having a woman as president. In one part of the song she says “Well we like to spend money, But not money we ain’t got, And we can balance a checkbook, And girls let me tell you what, It’s time to clean up capitol hill, With a shovel and a pair of high heels”. Right there I think she has a point. Most women can balance a check book and know how to save money, but not all women do. It’s a powerful message, but we already have tried to get women in the White House but not everyone went for it. Unfortunately I think it will be a long time till society becomes conferrable with have a woman as president.

The album cover also sends a powerful vibe across. In the background you see the white house small looking so small. Then in front you see a pair of women’s legs dressed in black tights and black heels. Showing empowerment over the White House and it looks as though it’s sending a message that women are going to take over the White House. It’s a strong message and perfect for the album. Since it’s her first country album, I don’t know if this would sell a ton of copies considering most people who do listen to country talk a lot about tractors, beer, hunting, fishing and so on. To talk about such a political statement in a country album may not get all the listeners it needs to get the point across. Over all having a woman as president sounds just fine to me and she’s sending a very powerful message so maybe this is what this country needs to get that point across to other listeners.

Juxtaposition Post

Sheryl Crow had some interesting lyrics in her song "Woman in the White House". This song is extremely sexist. She mentions all these characteristics of women and how these characteristics would help benefit the country. In this song Sheryl Crow is making it seem like men couldn't do half the things women could, because in her eyes women know how to do so much more. She mentions how women have more common sense, women know when to and not to spend money, and that women know how to manage money a lot better. She makes it seem like a women would do the job so much better than any of the men who have been President. She people to respect women and have people okay with a woman running the country, but the image she chose for this song contradicts everything.
Sheryl Crow probably isn't the only female who would like to see woman have a chance at running the White House. She could have done a better way of expressing her thoughts. I'm sure this song will sell well because it is catchy and slightly funny. However, no one is going to take her seriously. The image for this song makes it look like having a woman as President would just be a joke. The White House is between a pair of female legs wearing high heels, and I'm assuming that she is wearing a short skirt. Sheryl Crow wants people to take women seriously as a part of politics but she picked a "sexy" image instead of a more modest, serious image. Sheryl Crow could have easily made her point better by "pointing less fingers" in her song. This song would be taken more seriously if it wasn't so goofy sounding.
