The election for new president of
the United States is just around the corner. Barack Obama is in need of donations
for some unexplained reason, so he has requested the people who work for his
website www.barackobama.com to send an
email to the citizens of America who are on his emailing list. His workers
and/or Barack Obama used the term, “Friend” to remove the formal and informal
titles so the reader feels more connected to the author, whoever that may be,
we are still unsure as to whom it was.
The
email allegedly sent by Mr. Barack Obama which was then shown to us students,
is in favor for Obama. We can tell from this email that he, if not directly, is
telling us viewers that he is in need of donations from the Americans on his
side. Whether or not the reader is of age to vote, they can still support the
cause by donating from the internet. That creates another audience. Many young
people that are not eligible to vote, who are in favor of Obama to stay our
president, want to support him.
The
email is written flowingly; it all connects without being choppy and confusing.
The email was quite short but to the point. Although, the reader is unsure as
to why Barack Obama needs the donated money. The reader is expected to believe
that the money is actually going to Barack Obama or something related to him.
The email draws the reader into the text by being somewhat mysterious. It does
not explain why the money is needed so the person must go to the website and
investigate the claim. But what really draws the reader’s attention is the fact
that the president of the United States of America is personally emailing them,
how often can a person say they have gotten an email from the president?
The
vocabulary used was very informal, the email is kept very personal, like they
have been emailing back and forth prior to this advertisement. The way it is
ended was surprising because “To 2012” is different from many other greetings
or ending used in emails informally. It might actually be giving a hint as to
why a donation is needed.
The
email was surprising; many real world situations were used including a time and
date. Also, it was more than likely that the email was sent by someone else due
to the way it was composed. Either way, a rhetorical situation in this letter
is still present and can be further directed on a greater scale.
