Rhetorical Situation Essay

The specific elements of the “rhetorical situation” I used in my prompt were text, setting,  and purpose of the author.  Throughout my diagnostic essay, I explained that media was one of the main reasons that kids were having some problems they are today.  All of these problems are occurring now and to support this I used some of my personal encounters with media and its negative effect on kids, along with the author’s views.  I didn’t know at the time of writing my diagnostic essay that I used anything to help me come to my conclusion.  Without using these rhetorical elements I could not have correctly understood that the media was the main reason kids were developing bad habits and that the only way to crack down on this would be how the parent handles it.  These rhetorical elements helped shape the choices I made dramatically.  Now knowing these elements will help me to become a more complete writer.
I think I would make the same decisions now that I did during my diagnostic essay.  First, when trying to figure out the author’s thesis I had to read the paper several times so that I was sure I made an accurate analysis.  I would still agree that TV has a negative impact on children.  I agreed with many of the authors and others studies in my previous paper.  Based on my first-handed encounters I knew it was true and that helped me support my opinion.  Many people believe that it’s others responsibility to monitor their children and what they see; however, in reality it’s theirs.  If a parent doesn’t want their children to be affected by TV or video games then the parent should step up and not allow it.  Parents cannot just sit back and expect that the government or the companies who display this material to control whether children watch their advertisements and shows.  This is how these companies make their living, off of others.  It would be a very difficult task for them to handle.  The parents live with their children they know what is graphic and what’s not.  They are the control center to what their children watch and how they behave not others.  If I would not have used any of the rhetorical elements I would not have been able to write my essays.
