Election time is when politicians try to convince the people to make donations for their candidate. This email from Barack Obama does not seem like an email that the President would write to a person he was trying go persuade into donating for his campaign. For example the President would not address someone by saying "Hey" whether he knew them personally or not. Also he would not call them "Friend" because he has a position of authority and that is not how someone with that rank of placement addresses people. Not only does the email lack a correct address for the person he is writing to, it also does not have enough information it needs to convince someone to donate money. Also it does not have any information about the donation and when people donate they would like to know what their money is going to be used for.

The amount of money requested for the donation is very questionable, because the campaign is very expensive. Also this email does not tell anything about the President's campaign, so how are the people going to be able to know what his plans are if he gets elected? I think that this letter was written by a worker that helps with the President's campaign because it is poorly written for persuasion of the people. So my analysis of this email is that this email was not written by the President himself but by one of his workers due to the lack of several components that a persuasive email needs.

  1. That the subject line of the email was simply "Hey" is what first caught my attention too. I thought, "There is no way the most powerful man in our country personally writes an email to every last one of his citizens and says "Hey" to them as if it's no big deal." The word choice was overly simple and vague, the request was tacky, the amount of money requested was random, and too many words, titles, and phrases were overly informal for a person of any authority whatsoever. I think everyone in the class is in agreement that this email did not personally come from President Obama.
