The letter from the president is an example of a rhetorical writing. Although it is not a very good example is does meet all the requirements for being a rhetorical piece. It has a real world situation which is him asking for money, three dollars in this case, to help him with his cause. I do think that he could have given a little more information as to what he needs the money for. That may have made it a little bit easier for the reader to to donate if they actually know what their money will be used for instead of just sending money for no reason. The writer of this text is supposed to be Barack Obama, but how do we know that it is really him? I think that he could have made the letter a little more personal if it was actually him that wrote it. The only reason that we know who the intended reader of this piece is is because it was sent to Ms. Jarmer. I don't think that the writer did a good job of directing this e-mail to any specific group. In the beginning of the e-mail I don't think that "friend" should have been used. The reader doesn't know the writer on a personal level or visa versa and they are in fact not friends. The writer should have used something a long the lines of "to whom this may concern" or "to all interested". Overall I think that this e-mail needs more content. It needs more explanation. The writer doesn't draw attention to whatever they need to money for or keep the reader interested in donating. I wouldn't have even clicked on the link if I was reading this e-mail because the writing didn't say enough to even get me started on being interested in what they were talking about. The writer also needs to try and reach its audience on a more personal level. The writing has a meaning and a purpose, but in order to get people to buy into it it needs more information to it. Maybe if the writer would have made Ms. Jarmer feel like she had a reason to donate the money then she would have actually donated it. The signature should have also been more professional. It is signed like he is sending this e-mail to one of his friends or somebody that he actually knows.
