In the image that I chose the message being portrayed is,
due to our economic downfall we don’t have any jobs. All the people who went to school and received
degrees can’t find jobs because companies are lying off workers due to dwindling
budgets. Since many countries are off
fighting in wars including the United States, it would be easier to join the
army. The author did not have to put
much into the picture. What the author
displayed in the image is what is currently going on in our society today. It shows the picture of a solider with a high
school diploma next to someone with a college degree yet the solider is the
one who has the job. This shows that the
author of this text recognizes the current problem also but he or she wanted to
display it so others would understand it.
If the author would of chose to just write about this situation I think
it would of lost many of his or her viewers. By making
a picture he or she put it in front of us to see.
The author did a very good job in portraying this image and the represented
our economy and some of our other countries problems very well.
What the author was trying to get across by this image was
that, our country is always busy fighting wars and that even if you are well
educated and suited for a good job doesn’t mean you will get it. I think he or she might be saying that you might
have better luck trying to find a job without the degree. The text the author added was fit just right
for the image. It comes right out and
states what one of our biggest problems is.
I feel that the way the author decided to reach out to his or her
audience helped him or her to get their point across. The text the author added corresponded right along
with the picture making it seem even more true.
I believe that the author’s piece
of work was good because the piece of work that he or she made relates closely to
what is going on now. Knowing what is
going on in your life and someone making a political cartoon out of it helps
you to realize the problems that are occurring in our everyday life. Since I know some of these problems, I know that
the point the author is trying to get across is true.

Nick, I agree with your point that joining the army is easier than obtaining a job here in the United States because of how tragic our economy currently is. Those people that decide to go to college then have to pay for the tuition, books, and boarding fees. So I would say nowadays attending big time universities is almost a disadvantage because you get this huge debt then when your done you can't get yourself a job. Until the current state of the economy changes I believe that more kids coming out of high school will enlist into the branch of their choosing. I'm pretty sure that if you join the army for a certain amount of time that when you can get out the G.I. bill will pay for most of or all of the person's schooling. I am not saying that this should be the only reason for someone to join the army because you should join if it is what you truly desire. I was just saying that this would be advantagous if someone was to join. But hopefully our economy will progress here in the near future. The picture and the quote you found definitely fits your arguments to a tee.
