DIRECTV Blog

For the blog post this week I chose the “Stop Taking in Stray Animals” commercial. DIRECTV implies that when a person gets angry from cable, bad events tend to follow. It shows in the commercial that when a person gets angry from their television they make bad decisions that create a series of bad events. They argue that if you switch to DIRECTV these events would not happen and you would be happier. The commercial has great visual effects that display what can happen if you do not switch to DIRECTV. The visuals they have are way over exaggerated events that would not really happen if you did not switch users.  But the events are what make the commercials, and without them they would just be boring and dull. The audience for the commercial is anyone who has cable or anyone who is mad at their TV.

I thought the commercial was very entertaining. The visual effects that it had that correspond to what was going on in the video were hilarious. By using humor the commercial helps the audience remember it better than just having a boring commercial that no one pays attention to. Also, using humor keeps people focused on what they are watching. With the over exaggerated events that happen when you do not switch users it helps viewers to remember what company it is talking about because the events are what makes the commercial. I would not personally switch users just by watching the commercial, but I would remember DIRECTV simply because no other commercials are out there like theirs and because they were funny. One thing that DIRECTV could change with their commercial is to show what happens once you switch to them. It would help persuade the audience to switch by showing the positive side effects of switching from cable to DIRECTV.
