The first of many political debates has sprung up and the usual banter between the two candidates ensued. What struck me immediately is that throughout the video they seem to boast about Romney’s success with the debate and how now Obama is scourging whatever he can to find to throw at Romney to make up for the debate. It makes Obama seem like someone who is desperate to find any way to undermine Mitt Romney, while it makes no mention of what Mitt Romney publishes about Obama in the media. In all honesty if I was just to watch this video and have no idea about American politics or what was going on currently in American I would be a Romney supporter all the way, the reporters often threw in statistics that showed the likely voter is in favor of Mitt Romney but first of all what are likely voters? Likely voters is a vague term that could span from everyone who is registered to vote ,people who had voted in last election or anything really. Secondly where do they get the source of this information, I have never had someone call my house and ask if I was satisfied with the either of the two candidates and both my parents have voted for years now. If there not counted as likely voters I do not know who is.
I believe this videos bias was mainly based off of temporal bias. Mitt Romney had in many people’s eyes been the winner of the debate. So like many broadcasting companies they had to switch the lime light on Romney and appeal to the current gains by Romney. In a week Romney could do something that may upset his streak of good luck and bring Obama back into the favor of the press. I think readers have a hard time catching this type of bias because we often do not think of the media changing just to appeal to us so that they keep up their ratings.  Another bias in this was Narrative bias, they used it to portray Obama as an antagonist who is trying to through things at Romney in the media instead of in a debate while when mentioning what Romney’s done they made no mention to any of the political slander against Obama his campaign has published. In reality not a lot of people watch debates to really see what happened in them for all we know everything the news is saying could be a load of garbage and we would not know any better. I think this is why we do not question biases in the media because a lot of times we do not know a lot about the subject matter so we do not give it anymore deep thought.
